Chipboard was invented sometime in the late 1800s in Germany using wood shavings and an adhesive, then treated under pressure and heat. In the 1950s, veneered chipboard was developed and became a viable solution to the lumber shortage after World War II. Because it was new, chipboard was still an expensive product but became cheaper over time when production technology improved. The ’70s saw an advance of Melamine Faced Chipboard (MFC) which took the furniture production market by storm. Although the layer of melamine is usually only 0.3mm in thickness, it provides additional strength to the panel and adds an appealing look by way of stone or woodgrain reproductions.
Shortly after that, MFC quickly became the primary wood product used for mass-produced furniture, including kitchen worktops and flooring panels. And in the last decade or so, with the advanced cutting machinery becoming accessible to smaller enterprises, bespoke cabinet-makers discovered that they too could benefit from MFC cutting service for private furniture commissions.
At Cworkshop, we offer MFC cutting service for professionals and DIY enthusiasts. We use Cutting Optimisation software to map out the cutting pattern for every job to eliminate time and material wastage. Advanced industrial-grade and computer-aided cutting machines, managed by professional operators, deliver unparalleled precision and accuracy. The machines use two saw blades, and in addition to the primary saw blade, a scoring blade is used to ensure that each cut is smooth and chip-free on both sides. We inspect panel cutting quality and replace saw blades regularly to ensure a clean cut every time.
We will cut and edge MFC panels to your exact specification, or we'll send a replacement to you free of charge in 24hrs.
